About the client

Baltic is a longstanding client of Grandad as we have previously made their main website baltic.arts. They are an art venue that displays art from upcoming and innovative artists along with creating memorable experiences.

The Brief

Baltic came to us to help them display their large physical and digital archive in a user-friendly manner.

Challenges

What was missing in their current methods was a way for users to scroll and feel inspired. We knew that each user is unique in how they would use the archive; so we came up with the explore, discover, search concept.

Key Goals

Need text

Explore, Discover, Search

Explore allows the Baltic team to curate what the user will see and guide them to desired pages. Discover is a place for users with a theme in mind, not an item, where they can search through a set list of words to find associated pieces or simply scroll forever to find hidden treasures. Search contains an advanced search system that allows users to get as specific as they want when searching for an item.

Results

Allowing users to explore the Baltic archives in these innovative ways encourages more people to learn about art and leverage the tools and opportunities Baltic provides.

We pride ourselves on accessibility and user experience and Baltic Archive is no different. We provided ways in which any user could navigate Baltic’s archives and find the inspiration or item they are looking for seamlessly. We have learnt a lot from this project and are excited to continue developing our expertise in archives.
